RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The wildfire that tore through the savanna grasslands within Mount Rinjani National Park, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), has been successfully extinguished. The blaze was contained before spreading further, thanks to the rapid response of a joint task force on the ground.

The update was confirmed by Head of the Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Abdul Muhari, in an official statement on Thursday, June 4, 2026.

"According to reports from the local Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), the fire has been successfully put out, and conditions on the ground are now declared safe and stable,"said Abdul.

The firefighting operation involved a coordinated effort among various agencies, including the BPBD, the Indonesian military, the National Police, the Manggala Agni forest firefighting brigade, officials from the Mount Rinjani National Park Authority, as well as local volunteers and residents.

BNPB data shows that the wildfire, which struck the high-altitude region of East Lombok, scorched an estimated 98.28 hectares of land. According to reports received by the agency, the main hotspot originated in the Propok Savanna tourism zone, a prominent section of Mount Rinjani National Park, on Wednesday evening, June 3, 2026.

As of this writing, BNPB has not yet detailed the exact cause of the fire or the specific technical strategies deployed during the containment process.

Although the situation has been declared secure, BNPB explicitly reminded park management and local administration to intensify monitoring and field patrols.

This precautionary measure is deemed vital to mitigate the risk of new flare-ups, which are often triggered by the strong winds common during the dry season. BNPB has called for heightened vigilance from all stakeholders to prevent future incidents and ensure the long-term conservation of the Mount Rinjani ecosystem. (Annaila Azzahra/EN)
