RRI.CO.ID, Kupang - Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, situated in Wulanggitang Subdistrict, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted on Thursday morning. The volcanic event sent an ash plume shooting approximately 800 meters above the mountain's peak.

According to a report released by Herman Yosef S. Mboro, an officer at the Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki Observation Post, the eruption was recorded on the seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 11 millimeters. The overall duration of the seismic event lasted for about 3 minutes and 57 seconds.

"The eruption occurred at around 10.34 local time with an eruption height reaching approximately 2,384 meters above sea level (masl)," Herman Yosef S. Mboro stated in the official report received in Kupang on Thursday, June 4, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

Visual observations from the monitoring station noted that the thick ash column appeared gray in color. Driven by high-altitude winds, the volcanic ash cloud was seen drifting heavily toward the southwest and west.

Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki remains at Level III (Alert) as volcanic activity continues to intensify. Authorities have issued several safety measures for residents, tourists, and visitors in surrounding areas.

All activities are strictly prohibited within a five-kilometer radius of the volcano’s eruption center. Communities are also urged to stay calm, follow official instructions from local authorities, and avoid spreading or believing unverified information.

Meanwhile, residents affected by volcanic ashfall are advised to wear masks or other protective face coverings to reduce the risk of respiratory exposure to hazardous ash particles.

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) continues to maintain close coordination with the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD NTT) and local disaster response units to provide real-time updates regarding Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki's volcanic status. ***
