RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – For decades, Jakarta has been best known as Indonesia’s hub of business and government, defined by skyscrapers, traffic jams, office districts, and a fast-paced work rhythm.

Yet behind this metropolitan image lies another side of the capital now being recognized as a new potential: an urban lifestyle city with unique and dynamic energy.

This narrative was spotlighted by Delivering Asia, a Bangkok-based public relations and marketing agency specializing in hospitality and branded real estate, during a workshop at the Indonesia Tourism Xchange 2026, held at The Langham Jakarta.

The session brought together hospitality, communications, and tourism stakeholders to explore how Jakarta could be positioned as an international lifestyle destination, not merely a business transit city.

Founder and CEO of Delivering Asia, David Johnson, argued that Jakarta already possesses the essential elements of a modern global city--luxury hotels, world-class restaurants, MICE facilities, nightlife, local culture, and a thriving creative community.

“The strongest urban destinations are not defined only by landmarks or attractions, but by the behavior and lifestyle of their people,” he said on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

In the workshop, Jakarta was introduced as The High-Energy Heart of Indonesia--a city alive 24 hours a day, blending modern and local culture. Rooftop bars, entertainment hubs, and international business districts coexist with traditional cuisine, Indonesian wellness, and fast-growing creative communities.

Discussions also highlighted the new high-speed rail link to Bandung, opening opportunities for a two-city tourism concept. Bandung, recognized as a UNESCO Creative City of Design, is seen as a complement to Jakarta’s urban energy, encouraging visitors to extend their stay in West Java.

Kompas editor Budi Suwarna emphasized that authenticity and storytelling are crucial in shaping a modern city’s image. He noted Jakarta’s strong potential to attract a new generation of urban travelers and digital nomads, supported by growing infrastructure and lifestyle offerings.

The momentum is timely, as Jakarta celebrates its 500th anniversary in 2026--a milestone viewed as an opportunity to redefine the capital’s image on the international stage.

Amid competition from other Asian cities like Bangkok, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta is striving to stand out not as a shadow of its neighbors, but as a city with its own identity, energy, and distinctly Indonesian urban character. (Diva Rifdah)
