RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Tian Fu Gong Temple, located in the Riverwalk Island area of Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2, has emerged as a landmark symbol of diversity, tolerance, and interfaith harmony in Jakarta Province. Inaugurated on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the temple's construction was driven by a collaborative, community-led effort, with significant contributions from the management of the Sanggar Sinar Suci Foundation.
"The construction of this temple is not merely a physical development, but an important symbol of harmony, unity, togetherness, and interfaith tolerance within Jakarta's society," said Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, during the inauguration ceremony in North Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted by Antara.
In his opening remarks, he emphasized that the spirit of diversity demonstrated through the temple’s construction serves as a foundational pillar for Jakarta’s evolution into a global city. He noted that urban progress should not be measured solely by economic growth and infrastructure milestones, but also by social cohesion and the quality of the community's spiritual life.
"Achieving a progressive, inclusive, and sustainable global city is a shared vision for Jakarta. Consequently, the Jakarta Provincial Administration remains firmly committed to upholding religious freedom by ensuring that every citizen has a safe and proper space to practice their faith," explained the Governor.
Beyond serving as a sanctuary for worship and spiritual growth, the Governor expressed hope that the Tian Fu Gong Temple would transform into a vibrant hub for social interaction, cultural preservation, and a destination for religious and cultural tourism.
"I hope this temple becomes a center for social interaction that radiates human values, regardless of background. At the same time, it is expected to serve as a religious and cultural tourism destination that strengthens Jakarta’s identity as a global city that values its traditional heritage," he remarked.
Governor Pramono also drew attention to the broader Riverwalk Island PIK 2 complex, which integrates multiple houses of worship within a single area. The religious compound features the Al-Ikhlas Mosque, a Buddhist house of worship, the Tian Fu Gong Temple for Tridharma and Taoist followers, and plans for an upcoming Catholic church.
According to the Governor, the coexistence of these four distinct places of worship within a single zone mirrors the true essence of Indonesia's pluralism.
"Having four houses of worship here operating in complete harmony is a reflection of the diversity we must collectively preserve. Although privately managed, this area demonstrates how tolerance and togetherness can be tangibly realized. This is the true spirit of Indonesia," asserted Governor Pramono.
Furthermore, he assessed that the integrated religious district concept at PIK 2 holds significant tourism appeal.
To capitalise on this, he revealed that the Jakarta Provincial Administration is currently exploring transport connectivity upgrades to PIK 2, including the potential expansion of an LRT line linking directly to the area.
"I see immense potential in this district. With enhanced transport connectivity, I am confident this area will become a major new magnet for religious and cultural tourism in Jakarta," concluded Governor Pramono. ***
