RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor Administration, Indonesia and Milan City Administration, Italy strengthen cooperation to develop creative economy, public art, revitalize urban space , and secure urban food systems. In a diplomatic exchange , Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno met Milan Deputy Mayor, Anna Scavuzzo at Milan’s City Hall on Tuesday, May 13, 2026.

Central to this collaboration is an ambitious public art initiative scheduled for July 2026, which will see artists from both metropolises converge in Jakarta for a series of workshops and city-wide art installations. This creative exchange is designed not only to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Jakarta's infrastructure but also to serve as a bridge for young Indonesian creators to enter the global network.

Reflecting on the vision for the capital's streets, Rano Karno emphasized that the project goes beyond mere decoration. "Jakarta wants public spaces to be more than just places to pass through. They should be spaces for interaction, creativity, and civic pride. Art must exist close to the community."

The Jakarta delegation utilized the visit to analyze Milan’s world-renowned management of historic areas and museums. By studying how Milan maintains the vibrancy of its cultural assets, Jakarta aims to transform its own heritage sites into sustainable economic engines driven by tourism and creative industries.

This includes a budding partnership with the Museo delle Culture (MUDEC), intended to facilitate cultural exchanges and provide Jakarta’s youth with unprecedented access to international curated education.

As reported by Antara, the alliance also tackles the pragmatic challenges of 21st-century urbanization, specifically regarding how a city feeds itself.

Both administrations discussed strengthening food security through advanced urban farming techniques, the reduction of food waste, and the modernization of distribution systems. This technical cooperation aligns with Jakarta's goal of fostering a healthier, more sustainable consumption pattern among its residents.

In a significant show of diplomatic support, the Milan City Administration backed Jakarta’s planned entry into the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact. This international commitment underscores Jakarta’s dedication to building a food system that is inclusive, healthy, and environmentally sound.

The Jakarta Provincial Administration maintains that these global ties are rooted in local benefits, ensuring every international agreement translates into tangible results like improved public spaces.
