RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta Province is positioning itself as a premier destination for global athletic enthusiasts by expanding its Car Free Day (CFD) zones to include the prominent Rasuna Said corridor.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo highlighted that the strategic expansion is specifically designed to bolster the city's sport tourism appeal. This initiative transforms the capital’s weekend road closures into a significant draw for both domestic and international visitors.
By integrating major thoroughfares into the weekly event, the provincial administration aims to create a more expansive stage for high-caliber sporting fixtures. The Governor emphasized that the addition of the Rasuna Said area will naturally invite more diverse athletic activities and larger crowds.
“I believe that opening CFD in Rasuna Said will increase the amount of sport tourism available in Jakarta. This includes the hosting of various international events, whether it be football, marathons, or other activities,” said the Governor in East Jakarta on Friday, May 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
He noted a rising trend of travelers visiting the capital specifically for the weekend atmosphere, often timing their regional trips to conclude with a Sunday morning run in the city.
According to Governor Pramono, the unique appeal of Jakarta’s traffic-free mornings has already begun attracting visitors from outside the country who incorporate the experience into their broader Indonesian itineraries.
To accommodate this growing interest, the Governor has officially moved the CFD schedule to start earlier, running from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. local time. He reaffirmed that while Rasuna Said becomes a new focal point this week, the traditional hub of Thamrin-Sudirman will continue to operate simultaneously under the same updated hours, ensuring full support for the city’s sport tourism development.
To facilitate the expected influx of participants at the new Kuningan-area location, the Jakarta Transportation Agency has prepared four designated parking zones. The zones include Festival Market, GOR Soemantri, the Rasuna Epicentrum complex, Setiabudi One, and the Nyi Ageng Serang Building, offering thousands of spaces for cars and motorcycles.
Public transportation remains fully operational to support accessibility, with several Transjakarta and LRT routes continuing their services throughout the event hours. This ensures that the transition toward a more pedestrian-friendly capital remains seamless for all residents and tourists. ***
