RRI.CO.ID, Nagan Raya - Six elementary and junior high schools in Tadu Raya Subdistrict, Aceh Province, remain shuttered as of Friday afternoon, May 8, 2026. The closures stem from flooding that struck the area on Thursday, May 7, requiring thorough cleanups.
“For the time being, the six schools in the flood disaster area cannot resume learning activities, as cleaning is still being carried out by teachers and staff,” said the Head of the Nagan Raya Regency's Education Agency, Zulkifli, in Nagan Raya on Friday, May 8, 2026.
As reported by Antara, the affected schools in Tadu Raya Subdistrict include Kuala 7 State Junior High School, Alue Bata State Elementary School, Tarong Ijo State Elementary School, Tadu Ateuh State Elementary School, and Gunong Geulugo State Elementary School. Additionally, Pante Cermen State Elementary School in Seunagan Subdistrict is impacted.
Zulkifli noted that most of these schools were inundated with water 30-80 centimeters deep, leaving classrooms covered in mud that requires extensive clearing. To mitigate health and safety risks, the office has suspended classes and is coordinating with school principals for field monitoring.
“We urge parents to remain vigilant and supervise their children, given the uncertain weather conditions. Learning activities will resume only once the schools are declared safe and free of flood residue mud,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Nagan Raya Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) continues data collection and standby operations at flood-prone sites to prevent larger overflows if rains return. ***
