RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - Taman Safari Indonesia (TSI) has officially expressed its readiness to participate in the management auction for the Bandung Zoo, citing a long-term commitment to animal welfare and sustainable conservation. The move comes as the Bandung City Administration in West Java seeks new leadership to modernize the historic facility.
Aswin Sumampau, President Director of Taman Safari Indonesia, emphasized that taking over the zoo is more than a business venture.
“For us, managing a conservation institution is not just an operational matter, but a long-term mandate related to animal welfare, public education aspects, regulatory compliance, and institutional sustainability,” Aswin said in a release on Thursday, May 7, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
TSI has already engaged in preliminary discussions facilitated by the Bandung City Administration. Aswin highlighted that the selection process must remain transparent and accountable, ensuring the site is awarded to an entity with proven capacity. He stressed that any management transition must be executed with prudence to prioritize the safety and health of the inhabitants.
“Our main focus is to ensure that all decisions taken continue to place the safety, health, and welfare of animals as the top priority,” Aswin added.
Leveraging over 40 years of experience managing conservation sites across the archipelago, Taman Safari Indonesia believes the Bandung Zoo is ripe for a significant transformation. The organization’s vision includes elevating the facility into a modern conservation institution that meets international standards and global benchmarks.
Simultaneously, they are committed to historical preservation, seeking to enhance the site without erasing the significant cultural value it holds for the city of Bandung. Finally, a key priority is the protection of state-owned wildlife, ensuring that the state-entrusted animals currently housed at the zoo receive continued and specialized care.
The urgency for certain management, according to Aswin, is vital to guarantee that the welfare of these state-entrusted animals remains uncompromised during the transition period. ***
