KAI: 24 Victims Remain Hospitalized Following East Bekasi Commuter Line Accident

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - State-owned Railways Company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has released an update regarding the victims of the Commuter Line accident at East Bekasi Station as of Saturday, May 2, 2026. Out of the 106 people initially affected, 24 victims remain under hospital care, while 76 others have been discharged after their conditions were deemed stable by medical professionals.
KAI’s Deputy President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, emphasized that the company continues to prioritize comprehensive assistance for all affected passengers. She noted that KAI’s primary focus is ensuring optimal treatment and recovery for every individual.
“KAI ensures that all passengers still receiving treatment get adequate assistance throughout their recovery period,” said Anne in an official release on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
The company remains committed to monitoring the victims' progress and maintaining close coordination with hospitals and families. This proactive approach serves as a manifestation of the company’s accountability regarding passenger safety and welfare.
“We understand that recovery takes time. Therefore, we continue to support passengers and their families to ensure all medical needs are met and to provide trauma healing services so the recovery process can proceed more peacefully,” added Anne.
To facilitate this support, KAI has extended the operation of its Information Center at East Bekasi Station until May 11, 2026. The post serves as a dedicated hub for victims and their families to coordinate follow-up health services, administrative matters, and phased trauma healing programs.
Regarding personal belongings, KAI reported that as of May 2 at 6 a.m. Jakarta time, 115 items had been recovered. Of these, 57 have been returned to their owners, while 58 remain in the verification stage. Passengers missing items are encouraged to claim them at the East Bekasi Information Center.
The local community has also shown significant solidarity at the site, with residents and various groups offering prayers and leaving floral tributes as a gesture of support for the grieving families.
Meanwhile, operational services at East Bekasi Station resumed on April 28, 2026. Since reopening, the station has recorded a passenger volume of 15,774 at the entrance gates and 20,575 at the exit gates.
In addition to medical and psychological support, KAI has pledged long-term assistance for the families of the deceased, including educational guarantees for the children left behind.
KAI President Director, Bobby Rasyidin, reiterated that all current efforts are centered on recovery and future safety enhancements.
