RRI.CO.ID, Jayapura - The Jayapura Center for Quality Control and Supervision of Marine and Fisheries Products (PPMHKP) has intensified its oversight of Papua’s fishery exports to secure a stronger foothold in the competitive global market.

By implementing a comprehensive upstream-to-downstream monitoring system, the center aims to ensure that every shipment originating from the region strictly adheres to the international quality benchmarks demanded by destination countries.

Head of PPMHKP Jayapura, Fitriah Haji Ali, delivered an official statement in Jayapura on Thursday, April 30, 2026, emphasizing that these stringent measures are vital for regulatory compliance.

"We conduct comprehensive supervision from upstream to downstream, including through routine inspections and surveillance activities of fish processing units (UPI) operating in the Papua region," said Fitriah, as quoted by Antara.

This continuous monitoring is designed to safeguard product integrity and maintain the high standards required for international distribution.

The agency’s strategy focuses heavily on navigating the complex Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) requirements that often vary by country. Fitriah explained that meeting these standards is the primary factor in determining whether Papua's marine products can penetrate restricted global markets.

"Because each export destination country has different standards that must be met by business actors, intensive assistance is needed so that products do not encounter obstacles when entering the international market," she added.

Beyond field inspections, PPMHKP Jayapura is actively providing mentorship to local entrepreneurs to help them secure prestigious international certifications, such as HACCP and ISO 22000. This technical support is paired with strengthened communication channels between the agency and importing nations.

"In addition to technical supervision in the field, we are also strengthening communication with importing countries. This is done to ensure that fishery products sent from Papua comply with the regulations in force in the destination country," remarked Fitriah.

These efforts are already yielding results for Papua’s flagship commodities. Currently, premium products such as tuna from Jayapura and tiger prawns from Mimika Regency have successfully bypassed international trade barriers, marking a significant milestone for the region’s maritime economy.

Through coordinated oversight and diplomatic engagement, the agency remains committed to ensuring that Papuan fisheries continue to meet the world’s most demanding quality expectations. ***
