RRI.CO.ID, Banda Aceh - PT Pembangunan Aceh (PEMA) is set to significantly scale its international presence this May, doubling its export volume of the renowned Gayo Arabica Coffee to the United States (US). Following a successful inaugural shipment last month, the region’s primary development entity has secured orders for 40 tons of coffee, signaling a robust and growing demand for Aceh’s specialty beans in the world’s largest economy.
This second phase of exportation follows a mid-April milestone where PEMA’s subsidiary, Sumatera Noble Coffee KSO, successfully delivered 19 tons of triple pick Gayo Arabica to American buyers. The rapid follow-up request for a larger volume highlights the increasing prestige of the Gayo brand and the operational efficiency of Aceh’s supply chain.
"The sustainability of these exports is not merely about increasing volume, but more about maintaining consistency in quality, reputation, and long-term market access," said President Director of PT PEMA, Mawardi Nur, in Banda Aceh on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
He further emphasized that this strategic momentum is crucial for securing Aceh's position in the global commodity market. "This achievement is part of the company's organizational transformation process."
The expansion is expected to trigger a significant multiplier effect throughout the provincial economy. Beyond boosting foreign exchange reserves and Local Genuine Income (PAD), the trade strengthens the identity of Gayo coffee as a premium product. Commercial Director of PT PEMA, Faisal Ilyas, noted that the objective transcends simple commerce.
"What we are building is not just a trade transaction, but an economic ecosystem that provides sustainable added value for Aceh," remarked Faisal, as quoted by Antara.
To compete at the highest level of the specialty coffee industry, PEMA has implemented rigorous quality control protocols and sustainability principles across the entire supply chain. This holistic approach aims to transform Aceh into a premier global hub for specialty coffee while directly benefiting local producers.
PEMA’s Director of Business Development, Naufal, believes that strengthening the ecosystem from upstream to downstream will ultimately enhance production capacity and public welfare.
“We see this as a great potential to uplift the entire economic chain of the community, from the farmers at the upstream level to the industry players and exporters at the downstream,” concluded Naufal. ***
