RRI.CO.ID, Badung - Bali’s Ngurah Rai Immigration Office has successfully extradited a high-profile British fugitive, identified by the initials SL, following an intense international manhunt. The 45-year-old, suspected of being a powerful "mafia boss" leading a global criminal syndicate, was deported on Wednesday to face justice in Europe.
The operation highlights the tightening net of Indonesian border security. SL was initially apprehended on March 28 immediately upon landing at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on a flight from Singapore.
Immigration officials flagged his arrival through an integrated intelligence system that identifies individuals on the Interpol Wanted List (DPO).
Following his arrest, SL was handed over to the Airport Police before being escorted back to the airport for deportation under the heavy guard of Immigration’s Intelligence and Enforcement (Inteldakim) unit and the NCB-Interpol Indonesia Secretariat.
"Strict immigration supervision is the front line in safeguarding national security from potential foreign threats," Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan said, on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Intelligence reports suggest that SL orchestrated a sophisticated international criminal organization. He is allegedly the mastermind behind the management of multiple fictitious companies used as fronts for large-scale money laundering operations.
During the deportation process, the suspect remained handcuffed as he was escorted through the domestic terminal toward Jakarta, before catching a connecting flight to Amsterdam, Netherlands.
The success of the capture is attributed to the seamless digital integration between Indonesian authorities and global law enforcement. "Our systems are well-integrated and our officers are experienced in detecting and securing Interpol fugitives," Kurniawan added.
He emphasized that the consistent, intelligence-based monitoring of foreign nationals is a crucial element in protecting the country from transnational crime.
Immigration officials reaffirmed that they would continue to strengthen coordination with both domestic and international agencies to ensure that every foreign crossing is monitored with pinpoint accuracy, sending a clear message that Bali will not serve as a hideout for international fugitives. ***
