RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - The Bandung City Administration in West Java has set a target to involve 4,600 residents in its 2026 labor-intensive (padat karya) program. Designed to expand employment opportunities and bolster the local economy, the initiative will be implemented across 92 strategic locations throughout the city.

Head of the Bandung City Manpower Agency, Yayan Ahmad Brilyana, explained that the program serves as a vital bridge for citizens who are currently between jobs, providing them with temporary employment and steady income.

“The goal is to increase job opportunities, empower unemployed residents and provide income, and foster concern for the environment,” Yayan said in Bandung on Monday, April 6, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The Bandung City Administration has demonstrated a consistent expansion of its labor-intensive efforts over the past few years to better support the local workforce. In 2023, the program successfully reached 1,840 participants across 46 locations, a figure that more than doubled in 2024 to include 4,450 participants at 89 different sites.

Building on this momentum, the current target for 2026 has been increased to 4,600 participants distributed throughout 92 locations across the city.

In addition to physical labor, the program now includes a training component. Hundreds of participants have already undergone specialized training in waste management, turning environmental maintenance into a skill-building opportunity.

The program is designed to be inclusive, targeting Bandung residents (KTP holders) aged 17 to 50 years. It is open to both persons with disabilities and non-disabilities, with priority given to those who are currently unemployed.

The program is designed to be highly inclusive, welcoming all Bandung residents with a valid KTP aged 17 to 50 years, with a specific focus on those currently unemployed. To ensure participant welfare, the city provides a comprehensive support package that includes daily meals and all necessary work equipment for the duration of the tasks.

Beyond immediate financial incentives, participants also receive formal social security protection through both Health and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) and Employment Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan).

The program runs for 10 working days, with participants committed to an eight-hour workday. Through this structured empowerment, the Bandung City Administration hopes to simultaneously improve community welfare and encourage active public participation in environmental stewardship. ***
