RRI.CO.ID, Subulussalam - After being hit by floods in late November 2025, the people of Subulussalam in Aceh Province are slowly recovering. Residents used the Eid al-Fitr holiday to revive local traditions that emphasize togetherness.

One such tradition is the Robin Race, a motorized boat competition held on the Lae Soraya River in Rundeng Subdistrict. The event, usually staged during Eid, drew hundreds of residents who crowded the riverbanks to watch the races. The lively atmosphere reflected the community’s gradual return to normal life after the disaster.

The Robin Race also provided an economic boost, as small businesses took advantage of the crowds to sell food and goods. Tengku Fikri Wirlandi Kombi, a local resident, said the event was valuable for strengthening community ties and supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises. “This activity is very positive because it upholds community ties. And we hope the government will continue to support these annual events,” he said, as quoted on Prabowo Subianto's official website.

Committee chairman Muhammad Ikhwan Sambo said the race was supported by the Rundeng Subdistrict Leadership Council, ensuring smooth organization and broad participation. He noted that participants came from various communities across Rundeng.

Although one boat sank due to strong currents, the committee responded quickly, and no casualties were reported. The competition continued until the end, maintaining its festive spirit.

Ikhwan added that the committee plans to propose the Robin Race for city-level implementation in the future. Organizers hope the event will continue annually to strengthen social bonds and preserve the river culture central to the Rundeng community's identity. ***
