RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - West Kalimantan Governor Ria Norsan celebrated Eid al-Fitr 2026 by hosting an open house at the Governor’s Pavilion in Pontianak, where he highlighted the preservation of Makan Saprahan, a communal dining tradition deeply rooted in Malay culture.

“This tradition is not only a central part of Eid fellowship with the community, but also a symbol of safeguarding local wisdom amid the tide of modernization,” Governor Ria said on Monday, March 23, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

During the gathering, Ria and his family joined government officials, religious leaders, community elders, and residents in sitting cross-legged on mats spread across the floor. Meals were shared in groups of six, reflecting values of equality and togetherness.

“Makan Saprahan embodies the identity of West Kalimantan, where leaders and citizens sit side by side, sharing the same blessings. On this day of renewal, we strengthen brotherhood and mutual respect,” he added.

The governor emphasized that preserving such traditions reinforces cultural resilience while deepening Eid silaturahmi. “Saprahan teaches etiquette, solidarity, and cooperation. If we carry this spirit into daily life, West Kalimantan will grow more harmonious and prosperous,” he said.

Guests enjoyed a variety of local dishes, including pacri nanas, ketupat patlau, beef rendang, chicken opor, and sayur dalca. The event drew family members, community figures, and provincial officials, all mingling in a warm atmosphere of fellowship.

In addition to Saprahan, the governor’s open house extended over two days, welcoming the public without formal invitations as a gesture of inclusivity.
