RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang – A total of 1,302 inmates at the Class IIA Tangerang Youth Penitentiary in Banten received sentence remissions for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri. Nine inmates were immediately released following the reduced sentences granted for Eid in 2026.

Class IIA Tangerang Youth Penitentiary Head Yogi Suhara said the remissions were categorized as Special Remission (RK) I and RK II. “There are 1,302 inmates at the Tangerang Youth Penitentiary who received remissions for Eid al-Fitr this year,” he said on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

Of the total, 1,293 inmates received RK I, which reduces their sentences but requires them to continue serving the remainder of their sentences. Nine inmates received RK II, which reduces their sentences and grants immediate release.

“We are currently in the process of repatriating nine inmates who were immediately released after receiving remission, while 1,293 others remain in prison to serve their sentences,” Yogi said.

Inmates granted remission were confirmed to have met both administrative and substantive requirements in accordance with the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections regulations. These include serving at least six months of their sentence, receiving a final and binding court verdict, and execution by the prosecutor’s office.

“Substantively, inmates who receive remission are those with good behavior who follow prison rules and regulations. Administratively, regarding the court decision, there have been instructions from the prosecutor’s office, the latest of which confirms there are no F registers (no other cases),” Yogi explained.

Head of the Guidance Section for Young Inmates (Binadik) at the Tangerang Class IIA Youth Penitentiary, Hikmawan Eka Saputra, added that remission applications are free of charge and processed online through the Correctional Database System (SDP).

He emphasized that all development programs at the penitentiary, including independence and personality training, are also provided free of charge. “We can assure you that all development programs, as well as the proposal and granting of remissions, are provided at no cost,” he said.
