RRI.CO.ID, South Tapanuli - – Residents of temporary housing in Napa Village, Batang Toru, North Sumatra, who survived the floods and landslides last November, were seen enthusiastically celebrating Eid al-Fitr 1447 H/2026.

Many residents prepared food for the holiday. Despite living in post-disaster conditions, they continued their annual traditions.

“We’re frying peanut crackers for Eid,” Rosdiana said on Thursday, March 19, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

She explained that this year’s celebration was marked by simplicity, as the community was still recovering from the flash floods that struck her village, Garoga.

The crackers were made with whatever ingredients were available, but they carried special meaning as they were prepared to welcome her child returning from Central Tapanuli for Eid.

“These peanut crackers are also to welcome my child, who will be coming home from Central Tapanuli. No matter what, food like this must always be available,” she said.

Nearby, another resident, Diana, was frying garlic crackers with limited ingredients. “I’m frying garlic crackers for Eid with whatever I have,” she said while turning the crackers.

Although circumstances were different from previous years, residents emphasized the importance of maintaining the spirit of Eid to preserve the memories of Ramadan. “No matter our situation, we must celebrate this day of victory. It is our tradition,” Diana said. ***
