RRI.CO.ID, Jambi - The Jambi City Administration, in collaboration with the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Jambi City, has launched the "Shopping with Orphans and Dhuafa" social program to support children from underprivileged families as they prepare for the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah celebrations.

The program was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Jambi, Maulana, at Ramayana WTC Batanghari on Saturday, March 14, 2026. Approximately 100 orphans and dhuafa (impoverished individuals) from across the city participated in the event.

Each participating child received a shopping voucher worth IDR 500,000 (USD 29.5), which could be used to purchase holiday essentials such as new clothes and shoes. To enhance the festive experience, the children were also invited to enjoy the designated play areas within the mall.

Mayor Maulana highlighted that the assistance provided this year has increased in value to better meet the children's needs.

“This year the budget is around IDR 50 million. Compared to last year, there is an increase from IDR 350,000 to IDR 500,000 per child,” Maulana explained, as quoted by infopublik.id.

The Mayor noted that this shopping program is part of a broader social safety net deployed during Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. Other initiatives include the distribution of 750 basic food packages (sembako) and over 50,000 administration food reserve packages to ease the economic burden on residents ahead of the holidays.

“All of this is part of the effort to help the community welcome Eid in a better way,” he added.

The Chairman of Baznas Jambi City, Muhamad Padli, clarified that all participants fall under the asnaf (zakat recipient) category and underwent a strict data verification process. Since many of the recipients are still of primary school age, Baznas hopes to continue providing long-term guidance and support.

He expressed his hope for increased corporate sponsorship in the future to expand the program's reach. The initiative is funded by the zakat, infaq, and alms collected from donors (muzakki) across Jambi City, ensuring that every child can experience the happiness of Eid al-Fitr. ***
