RRI.CO.ID, Tidore - The Tidore Kepulauan City Administration, North Maluku, in collaboration with Burung Indonesia, a national conservation NGO, part of the BirdLife International network, dedicated to protecting Indonesia’s bird species and habitats, convened a coordination meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, to draft the city’s official Biodiversity Profile (KEHATI).

The meeting, held at the city’s assistant secretary's office, marks a strategic step toward identifying, documenting, and safeguarding the region’s natural wealth.

Assistant Secretary for Government and People’s Welfare, Rudy Ipaenin, explained that the profile is not simply an administrative requirement but a strategic measure to recognize and protect the ecological, economic, and cultural assets of Tidore.

He noted that the city is known for its diverse terrestrial and marine ecosystems, ranging from forested highlands to coastal and marine areas rich in flora and fauna. “This wealth is an important asset for regional development and also a shared responsibility to preserve it sustainably,” Rudy said.

He added that biodiversity is now considered an integral part of the city’s development agenda, linked to food security, community economic growth, tourism, and climate change mitigation.

“The compilation of the KEHATI Profile of Tidore Kepulauan City has a very important meaning. Because this document will later become the official database and information regarding the regional biodiversity potential, a reference in the preparation of regional development policies and planning that are environmentally sound, and an instrument for the protection and management of natural resources sustainably with the basis of developing a natural resource-based economy and ecotourism,” Rudy explained, as quoted by infopublik.id.

The administration emphasized the need for cross-sector collaboration to ensure the profile is comprehensive and scientifically accountable.

Rudy called for active participation from regional agencies, universities, environmental communities, and local residents who have long acted as guardians of nature. “Active participation from all parties is highly expected, because the preparation of this profile is not possible for just one agency,” he said.

The meeting featured Benny Siregar, Maluku–North Maluku Regional Coordinator for Burung Indonesia, as a resource person. Legislative leaders, officials from the Aketajawe Lolobata National Park, and academics also attended, underscoring the commitment to balance development with environmental preservation. ***
