RRI.CO.ID, Kota Bengkulu - Bengkulu City in Bengkulu Province is taking a significant step toward improving senior welfare by launching nine specialized "Elderly Schools" across its nine subdistricts.
This initiative, officially announced by the city administration, aims to foster independence and enhance the quality of life for the elderly population through structured, community-based learning.
The city’s Women's Empowerment, Child Protection, Population Control, and Family Planning (P3AP2KB) Agency confirmed the expansion as a strategic move to ensure broader accessibility for seniors living in various parts of the city.
"In 2026, the Bengkulu City Agency officially launched nine Elderly Schools spread across nine districts," said Head of the P3AP2KB Agency, Rosminiarti in Bengkulu on Monday, March 9, 2026.
She emphasized that the launch marks a vital milestone in ensuring more seniors can benefit from the program’s holistic approach to aging.
As reported by Antara, the schools are established in the Subdistrict of Gading Cempaka, Kampung Melayu, Muara Bangkahulu, Ratu Agung, Ratu Samban, Singaran Pati, Selebar, Sungai Serut, and Teluk Segara.
According to Rosminiarti, classes are scheduled to commence in April 2026, following the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah festivities. Each study group is expected to meet three times a month, utilizing a curriculum designed to be relaxed and interactive to ensure a comfortable learning environment.
The modules cover a range of essential topics, including physical health, light exercise, and mental and social coaching.
The program is envisioned as a productive hub where seniors can remain active and healthy while staving off social isolation. By providing a dedicated space for social interaction and specialized knowledge, the administration hopes to empower the elderly to maintain their vigor during their twilight years.
"The Elderly School program aims to ensure that seniors continue to have positive activities. They can learn together, interact, and gain various useful insights to maintain their health and fitness in old age," concluded Rosminiarti. ***
