RRI.CO.ID, Denpasar - The Denpasar City in Bali is reframing its fight against stunting not merely as a clinical challenge, but as a foundational pillar for regional competitiveness and human resource excellence.

Deputy Mayor I Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa presided over the Pre-Musrenbang for the 2026 Stunting Prevention and Reduction Convergence Action on Wednesday, March 5, 2026. During the event, he emphasized that the physical and cognitive development of the city's youth is directly tied to the success of its long-term cultural and economic visions.

This strategic push integrates stunting reduction into the broader "Culture-Based Creative City" framework, grounded in the traditional Balinese values of Nangun Sat Kerthi Loka Bali. By aligning health interventions with the city's 2027 development theme, which focuses on digital transformation and public service innovation, the administration aims to create a seamless link between childhood nutrition and future workforce productivity.

Arya Wibawa noted that stunting has long-term consequences, significantly affecting growth, cognitive abilities, and the nation's overall competitive edge.

Despite consistent efforts, the city's data reveals a fluctuating trend that demands more precise interventions. According to the 2024 Indonesian Health Survey, the stunting prevalence stood at 10.8 percent, while the 2024 Nutritional Status Survey showed a slight dip to 10.4 percent.

As reported by Antara, the Deputy Mayor remained candid about these figures, acknowledging that the progress has not yet met the government's high standards for its citizens.

“These achievements have certainly not met our collective expectations. We still face challenges across several service indicators, particularly interventions targeting teenage girls, prospective newlyweds, and specific services for infants under two and toddlers,” he remarked.

To bridge these gaps, Denpasar is leveraging Mayor’s Regulation No. 69/2021 as a legal backbone to synchronize cross-sectoral efforts. The roadmap for the coming years includes a five-pronged strategy, intensifying preventive care during the first 1,000 days of life, upgrading primary healthcare capacity at community health centers, and strengthening data-driven convergence.

Furthermore, the city plans to implement rigorous budget tagging for stunting programs. It also aims to expand partnerships with academia, the private sector, and traditional village leaders to ensure a community-wide safety net.

Central to this mission is the transition from administrative planning to grassroots execution. The Deputy Mayor called upon subdistrict and village authorities to act as the front line in ensuring that services actually reach the families in need.

He stressed that the success of the program will be measured by its visibility in the homes of residents rather than its presence in policy papers. “I also emphasize the importance of the roles of subdistricts, villages, and urban communities as the front line in ensuring that services truly reach their targets. Convergence must be real on the ground, not just in planning documents,” he concluded. ***
