RRI.CO.ID, Purwokerto - The Banyumas Regency Administration in Central Java has officially committed five buses to the 2026 Free Homecoming program. This initiative specifically targets migrant workers in the Greater Jakarta area, offering an organized alternative to the high-risk tradition of long-distance motorcycle travel during the Eid al-Fitr season.

Head of the Banyumas Regency Transportation Agency, Omar Udaya, confirmed the allocation on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, noting that the local administration is currently seeking to expand the fleet through inter-agency partnerships.

"The local administration has definitely prepared five vehicles. We are still coordinating with other institutions regarding additional units," said Omar in Purwokerto, Central Java.

As reported by Antara, the program is integrated with the Central Java Provincial Administration’s broader policy. Fleet departure is scheduled for March 16, 2026, from the Purna Bhakti Pertiwi Museum at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah Park, Jakarta.

While the provincial administration manages registration and technical mechanics, the Banyumas administration is responsible for providing the fleet and operational support at the arrival points.

Beyond the free transportation service, local authorities are bracing for a massive influx of travelers by mapping out the region's infrastructure. Omar noted that his team has participated in national briefing sessions and will soon hold localized meetings to finalize the flow of the 2026 homecoming and return currents.

Head of the Transport and Safety Division at the Banyumas Transportation Agency, Mufti Hakim, revealed that his office has already identified alternative routes to bypass inevitable bottlenecks on main arteries. Strategic traffic engineering is being prepared for notorious congestion hotspots, particularly in the Patikraja and Rawalo areas.

"We have prepared alternative routes and anticipatory measures in case of heavy congestion, including the utilization of smaller roads that are still feasible for vehicles to pass through," explained Mufti.

By diverting traffic and providing free mass transit, the administration aims to alleviate the financial burden on travelers while maintaining order on the roads during Indonesia's largest annual migration. ***
