RRI.CO.ID, Sambas - The Sambas Regency Administration in West Kalimantan has reaffirmed its commitment to strategic development in border regions through a high-level coordination meeting with the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Kuching.
Regent Satono, accompanied by the Chair of the Sambas Family Welfare Empowerment (TP PKK) team, Yunisa, hosted the Head of KJRI Kuching, Abdullah Zulkifli, at the Regent’s Official Residence on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The meeting served as a pivotal moment to deepen cross-border relations, focusing on food security, human resource development, and economic resilience.
Against the backdrop of the holy month of Ramadhan, the visit emphasized the importance of regional self-sufficiency. Regent Satono highlighted that the global economic climate, including volatile crude oil prices, necessitates that Sambas reduces its reliance on external suppliers by maximizing its internal resources.
“We have discussed with the Consul General previously about strengthening the potential that we possess so that we do not rely too heavily on other regions, especially in terms of food security,” said Regent Satono, as quoted by infopublik on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The Regent also addressed the impending challenges of the holiday season, noting the government's responsibility to manage price stability.
“As we approach the end of Ramadhan and Eid al-Fitr, inflation in staple goods is possible. We, as part of the government, have a strategic role in curbing that inflation,” he added.
The Consul General of the Republic of Indonesia in Kuching, Abdullah Zulkifli, expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and underscored the deep historical and cultural ties between the two border communities. He noted that the cooperation between Sambas and Kuching is a high-priority agenda due to its significant untapped potential.
“We strongly support the increase in cooperation in the border area; the potential for cooperation is very high. We need the support of the Forkopimda and the subdistrict heads to work together to succeed in the cooperation between both parties that share a land border and a long historical bond,” said Abdullah.
He further signaled the consulate's readiness to collaborate closely with all stakeholders in Sambas to ensure that border development is not only sustainable but also directly improves the quality of life for residents living along the frontier. ***
