RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The North Jakarta Administration has ramped up its road maintenance operations. Crews identified and repaired hundreds of potholes across the Penjaringan Subdistrict throughout February 2026.

This surge in restoration work comes as authorities scramble to address infrastructure damage caused by a combination of extreme weather and heavy industrial traffic.

"Of the six subdistricts, Penjaringan recorded the highest number of repairs in February, with 287 potholes patched, covering an area of 4,769.75 square meters," remarked Budi Cahyo Wardoyo, Head of the Road and Bridge Section of the North Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

As reported by Antara, this local effort is part of a broader city-wide campaign. Throughout the same month, the agency repaired a total of 1,752 damaged spots across North Jakarta, spanning a massive 18,154.31 square meters.

The scale of the operation has grown significantly in a short period. Official data shows that the volume of roadwork in February nearly doubled from January, which saw 1,013 repairs.

Budi emphasized that these efforts are vital for maintaining the flow of transportation, particularly along critical logistics routes and within densely populated residential neighborhoods. To keep up with the demand, Bina Marga personnel are working in shifts, responding to both routine patrols and citizen reports submitted via the JAKI application.

"We ensure that all repairs meet the established technical standards," affirmed Budi.

Authorities have identified a clear pattern behind the deteriorating road conditions. The North Jakarta Bina Marga Agency attributed the widespread damage to the relentless movement of heavy-tonnage logistics vehicles and the onset of the rainy season.

Head of the North Jakarta Bina Marga Agency, Darwin Ali, reiterated this on Tuesday, noting that the environmental and logistical pressures are a volatile mix for local infrastructure.

“The appearance of potholes in North Jakarta is the result of high rainfall intensity at the beginning of the year combined with dense vehicle mobility, particularly heavy-tonnage logistics transport,” explained Darwin. ***
