RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - With the Eid al-Fitr travel season fast approaching, State-owned Railways Company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Regional Division (Daop) 1 Jakarta has reported a significant surge in bookings, with 583,178 tickets sold as of early March 2026. This volume covers the designated Lebaran transport period, which is scheduled to run from March 11 to April 1, 2026.
"Out of the total 1,043,573 seats provided for Long-Distance Trains departing from Gambir and Pasar Senen stations, the temporary occupancy rate has already reached approximately 56 percent," remarked Franoto Wibowo, Public Relations Manager for KAI Daop 1 Jakarta, during a press briefing on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The data reveals that the peak of public demand is concentrated between March 11 and March 20, 2026, a window that accounts for 404,537 of the total sales. Specifically, March 18 has emerged as the most popular travel date with 48,593 tickets sold, followed closely by March 19, March 17, and March 16.
As quoted by Antara, Franoto warned that remaining seats for these specific dates are now "very limited."
In contrast, those planning to travel later in the season still have options, with 367,592 seats currently available for departures between March 23 and April 1, 2026. In terms of service classes, KAI has prepared 510,408 executive class seats (307,743 remaining), 453,216 commercial economy seats (161,317 remaining), and 79,948 Public Service Obligation (PSO) economy seats, which are nearly sold out with only 7,863 spots left.
"Overall, the total number of remaining seats currently stands at 476,923," noted Franoto.
He highlighted that popular routes departing from Gambir Station include the Pandalungan, Argo Semeru, Gunungjati, Cakrabuana, Pangandaran, and Batavia trains. Meanwhile, travelers departing from Pasar Senen are favoring the Bengawan, Airlangga, Serayu, Kertajaya, Jayakarta, and Progo lines.
As the available inventory continues to shrink, KAI officials are encouraging prospective passengers to finalize their travel arrangements soon.
“We urge the public to plan their homecoming and return trips wisely, choose available alternative dates, and take full advantage of the convenience features provided by KAI,” advised Franoto. ***
