RRI.CO.ID, Agam Regency - Public Junior High School 1 Malalak in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, is transforming the Holy Month of Ramadan 1447 Hijri year into a season of spiritual healing and rigorous academic preparation. This transition comes despite the lingering effects of the devastating flash floods that struck the region in late 2025.
The school, which saw seven students and one teacher directly impacted by the November disaster, has launched a comprehensive religious program to bolster student morale. As reported by Antara, this initiative also maintains a sharp focus on future educational goals.
The school day now begins with a deliberate emphasis on spiritual grounding. Before conventional classes commence, students gather for the Duha prayer, followed by 30 minutes of Quranic recitation.
"There are several religious activities that we carry out upon entering school during the Holy Month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah," remarked Haris Pratama, Principal of Public Junior High School 1 Malalak, on Monday, February 23, 2026.
These sessions also include practical instruction on performing obligatory prayers and the funeral prayer (janazah), concluding with a communal Zuhur prayer.
Beyond the spiritual curriculum, the administration is ensuring that academic standards remain high, particularly for those approaching graduation. Ninth-grade students are currently undergoing specialized academic ability test simulations.
This initiative is designed to equip them with the necessary credentials and confidence to apply for top-tier senior high schools. The school expressed hope that these additional preparation modules will serve as a "value-added" advantage for students seeking admission to elite institutions.
The atmosphere on campus remains vibrant, serving as a vital support system for those still recovering from the floods.
Syarifa, a ninth-grade student, expressed her enthusiasm for returning to the classroom during the fasting month despite the past year's challenges. "I am happy because there are many friends here," she said.
By integrating Quran memorization with academic simulations, Public Junior High School 1 Malalak is proving that recovery from disaster involves nurturing both the mind and the soul. ***
