RRI.CO.ID, Samarinda - The city of Samarinda in East Kalimantan has transformed the holy month into a powerful economic engine. This transformation is driven by a vibrant "Ramadan Shopping Tourism" initiative featuring 150 of the region’s top Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
By blending traditional commerce with a curated tourism experience, the East Kalimantan provincial capital is actively working to accelerate the local money flow through community-based trade.
"We intentionally embraced 150 selected MSMEs to provide diverse choices for residents. Simultaneously, we are turning this event into a tourism attraction that speeds up the community's economic rotation," said Head of the Samarinda Youth, Sports, and Tourism Agency, Muslimin in Samarinda on Sunday, February 22, 2026.
The bustling marketplace serves as a one-stop destination for Ramadan essentials. It offers everything from a colorful array of traditional takjil, or breakfast snack, and sweet desserts to high-quality Muslim attire.
As reported by Antara, the city administration has meticulously decorated the area with Islamic-themed lighting and ornaments to elevate the visitor experience. These decorations are specifically designed to draw crowds from all walks of life.
To maintain a sense of order and professionalism, the administration has provided standardized, uniform tents for all vendors. This setup ensures the shopping environment remains clean and comfortable for the thousands of residents hunting for breakfast meals.
Beyond the retail aspect, the event has been designed as a cultural celebration, featuring live religious music performances that fill the air as the sun sets toward the Maghrib prayer.
The organizers have also prioritized public order by preparing adequate parking facilities and integrated waste disposal points to handle the high volume of visitors.
To protect the public's health, officials from relevant agencies are conducting regular inspections to ensure all food products meet strict hygiene standards.
"Through this shopping tourism, it is hoped that it can become a real momentum for the revival of the people's economy, which has a direct impact on the welfare of small traders," added Muslimin. ***
