RRI.CO.ID, Tuban - As of February 20, 2026, the Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Department (DKP2P) of Tuban Regency, East Java, has recorded 123 cases of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). Of the total cases reported, 83 livestock have recovered, 35 remain under treatment, and five have died.
As reported by infopublik.id, the administration is managing the outbreak through a centralized FMD Service Post under the DKP2P.
Containment efforts involve a comprehensive strategy, including medical treatment, mass vaccinations, and the distribution of vitamins and minerals. Furthermore, authorities have tightened surveillance on livestock movement between regions to curb further transmission across subdistricts.
Addressing the situation, Head of Animal Health at DKP2P Tuban, Pipin Diah larasati noted that environmental factors have played a significant role in the recent uptick.
"The upward trend in FMD cases is partly driven by weather conditions that weaken the livestock's immune systems. Delayed treatment can be fatal, particularly for calves, which are significantly more vulnerable," she said on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Pipin further emphasized that prevention remains the cornerstone of the regency's control strategy. She urged farmers to prioritize biosecurity and ensure livestock receive high-quality, sufficient feed while maintaining daily monitoring.
"We advise farmers to maintain strict biosecurity and stable cleanliness. Furthermore, they must ensure adequate nutrition and monitor the condition of their livestock daily. If any symptoms appear, please report them immediately to sub-district officers for prompt intervention," she added.
In addition to surveillance, the DKP2P is aggressively rolling out vaccination programs across various regions. Field officers have been deployed to administer vitamins and minerals to bolster animal immunity.
Through these proactive and measured steps, the Tuban Regency Administration reaffirmed its commitment to stabilizing the local livestock sector, which serves as a vital pillar of the community's economy. ***
