RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - As Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT) Phase 1B from Velodrome to Manggarai hits 89% completion, residents are urging provincial authorities to extend the line to dense neighborhoods and economic hubs to smoothen commutes and reduced traffic.
Kelapa Gading Subdistrict resident, Rizki Sunarto, praised Manggarai Stasiun role as a key transport node linking KRL Commuter Line, Airport Rail, and TransJakarta.
"Hopefully, the Jakarta LRT line can be extended to densely populated areas and economic activity centers. With Jakarta LRT connecting to that area, residents' mobility becomes more efficient," said Rizki on Friday, February 20, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Dian, a North Jakarta resident, expressed hopes for extensions to outer residential areas. "North Jakarta already has some public transport options like TransJakarta and KRL (Electric Rail Train), but if Jakarta LRT could reach areas far from downtown, more people would definitely switch from private vehicles."
Indra, a worker in Jenderal Sudirman Street, sees expansion as a traffic solution for business, education, and office subdistricts. "If access becomes wider and more integrated, people will think twice about driving their own cars. This must be supported."
"Ease of intermodal transport transfers is seen as the key factor for mass transit system success," concluded Indra.
Jakarta Province Governor, Pramono Anung, confirmed the focus on finishing Phase 1B first. "The Jakarta Provincial Administration is currently completing the LRT from Velodrome Station to Manggarai Station. Hopefully, it can start operating next year," he said.
Post-completion options include routes from Velodrome-Kelapa Gading to Tanjung Priok, Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), Ancol, and PIK 2.
"Starting from Velodrome-Kelapa Gading through to Tanjung Priok, then to JIS (Jakarta International Stadium), from JIS to Ancol, and from Ancol to PIK 2, and so on," detailed the Governor. ***
