RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung Wibowo, has launched a city-wide cleanup initiative ahead of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan. The Governor has issued a firm directive to his administration to clear "manusia gerobak" (cart people), seasonal waste pickers who operate mobile carts, from the city’s thoroughfares to ensure Jakarta remains secure and comfortable for all residents.
“If there are newcomers arriving in that capacity, we will certainly take enforcement action for the collective cleanliness of Jakarta,” remarked Governor Pramono while visiting Central Jakarta on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

As reported by Antara, the Governor emphasized his vision for the capital to become a safer, more pleasant, and happier environment. This move targets the seasonal influx of scavengers who typically frequent Jakarta’s streets during major religious holidays.
The operation extends beyond mobile carts. Governor Pramono has also reiterated that sidewalks must be cleared of street vendors to restore pedestrian rights.
These local efforts align with the broader national vision set by President Prabowo Subianto during the 2026 National Coordination Meeting. During the event, the President called for a more orderly and pristine Indonesia.
Waste management remains a top priority under this presidential mandate. “Actually, Jakarta was relatively clean some time ago when we were facing the floods. But once again, we will continue to clear all waste issues,” explained Governor Pramono.
Furthering his commitment to urban beauty, the Governor also ordered the removal of political party flags from Jakarta's flyovers. He noted that such displays often obstruct traffic and mar the city's visual appeal.
By addressing everything from street-level activity to overhead obstructions, the provincial administration aims to present a more refined face of the capital to the world. ***
