RRI.CO.ID, Bekasi City - The Bekasi City Administration in West Java, continues to reinforce protections for workers, specifically within the construction services sector. A primary focus of this initiative is urging construction firms to provide comprehensive labor social security for their workforce.

Deputy Mayor of Bekasi, Abdul Harris Bobihoe, emphasized that protection for construction workers is an absolute necessity given the relatively high occupational risks associated with the industry. According to him, social security for these workers is non-negotiable, and construction firms must be diligent in fulfilling their obligations and upholding workers' rights.

Abdul further noted that labor social security yields positive outcomes for the companies themselves. He highlighted that the sense of security provided by social protection directly boosts worker productivity.

"When workers are protected, development proceeds more optimally and sustainably. This is why social security is vital for the workforce," he remarked during the opening of the 2026 Coordination Meeting for the Optimization of Construction Labor Social Security at the Bekasi City Administration office on Monday, February 9, 2026.

The Deputy Mayor stressed that social security coverage must be more than just an administrative requirement moving forward. He emphasized that these protections must be genuinely implemented by all construction business entities.

"We are committed to ongoing evaluation and supervision. This ensures the labor social security program in the construction sector provides tangible benefits to workers and the wider community," he added.

In alignment with this, Ahmad Fauzan, Head of Social Security Agency (BPJS Employment) Bekasi City Branch, urged business owners to comply with existing regulations. He specifically called on them to register all their employees in the social security program.

"Construction employers are obligated to register their workers for social security. This regulation must be followed to guarantee and ensure the safety of all construction personnel," remarked Ahmad Fauzan. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
