RRI.CO.ID, Tangerang – A total of 118 families in Jenggot Village, Mekar Baru Subdistrict, Tangerang Regency, remain isolated. Meanwhile, 4,352 other families are still displaced following floods that have persisted since early January 2026.

The Head of Mekar Baru Subdistrict, Iman Bahlawi, said that the overflow of the Cidurian River tributaries has submerged residential areas and local roads in Jenggot and Kedaung Villages. The flooding has impacted 2,029 residents, leaving 118 families isolated in floodwaters reaching depths of 90 centimeters.

"There are 118 families currently cut off by floodwaters at a depth of 90 centimeters. As of today, the situation remains unchanged," he reported on Thursday, February 5, 2026.

Iman explained that evacuation efforts in these isolated areas have faced significant obstacles. This is due to the location of the homes, which are situated near the Cidurian River tributaries and surrounded by flooded rice fields.

"The houses are positioned close to the river flow and adjacent to paddy fields; that is our primary challenge," said Iman.

Currently, approximately 80 residents have sought refuge at Jenggati Public Elementary School, which is serving as a temporary emergency shelter. Although not all residents have been evacuated, authorities continue to distribute essential supplies to those affected.

"Basic necessities are sent daily to those who are isolated because they require food supplies. Furthermore, the flooding in these two villages within Mekar Baru is caused by the siltation of the Cidurian tributaries, which can no longer accommodate the water volume," he added.

Iman noted that the Tangerang Regency Administration has planned a river restoration project as a long-term solution. "The Regent has pledged that restoration work will be carried out within 2026," he remarked.

The Head of the Tangerang Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Ahmad Taufik, recorded that 4,352 families remain in evacuation centers or staying with relatives. These displaced persons are spread across 17 villages in four districts that remain inundated.

Taufik confirmed that flooding persists in the districts of Mekar Baru, Kronjo, Kresek, and Gunung Kaler, with water levels ranging between 30 and 50 centimeters.

"Out of the 27 subdistricts previously affected by floods, only four remain inundated. Other areas have seen the waters recede," said Taufik.

Despite the shrinking affected area, thousands of residents have not yet returned home as conditions are not yet safe for habitation. Taufik attributed this flood cycle to prolonged high-intensity rainfall and the overflowing of the Cidurian and Cimanceuri Rivers.

"The primary factors are heavy rainfall and river overflows. We hope the water will fully recede in the near future," added Taufik.

To meet the basic needs of affected citizens, the Tangerang Regency Administration has distributed logistics to approximately 13,000 families during this emergency response period. "We hope everything returns to normal soon," concluded Taufik. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
