RRI.CO.ID, Lebak - The Lebak Regency Administration, Banten Province, held a fire prevention and response simulation in the Badui residential area in Kanekes Village.

“We hope this simulation improves knowledge of fire extinguishing procedures,” said Iwan Darmawan, head of the Lebak Regency Public Order Agency’s Firefighting Division (Satpol PP Damkar), in a statement in Lebak, Wednesday, February 4, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He added that the Badui residential areas are considered fire-prone, necessitating early prevention measures. Most fires in the Badui area are caused by stoves used for cooking. Homeowners often forget to extinguish the fire after cooking and leave firewood on top of the stove, which causes the fire to spread upwards.

"If one house catches fire, it can spread to other houses because Badui houses are made of bamboo and have roofs that burn easily," he said.

He said that the fire simulation activity in the Badui settlement is a preventive measure to mitigate natural disasters given the community's limited access to emergency response services. Therefore, his team focuses on fire prevention simulations, providing education to the Badui community.

"We teach them how to extinguish fires simply and prevent them using both traditional and modern equipment. We provide this education through early fire prevention methods, including using wetted burlap sacks to extinguish fires," he said.

Village Secretary Kanekes Medi said the Badui community appreciates the fire prevention simulations, as they have traditionally used stoves and firewood for cooking.

"Now we know how to extinguish stove fires using cloth and wetted burlap sacks," he said. ***
