RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - As floodwaters begin to recede across Subang Regency, West Java, a secondary crisis is surfacing among displaced residents returning to their homes. Following a week of inundation, hundreds of villagers are now reporting a surge in waterborne diseases and physical ailments.
Anang, Head of Health Services at the Subang Subdistrict Health Agency, confirmed on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, that medical teams have already treated approximately 1,500 residents.
"On average, these evacuees are complaining of skin irritation and itching, gastric pain, and headaches," he said on February 3, 2026.
These figures were compiled from various emergency health outposts, including those located under the Pamanukan flyover and the subdistrict offices of Pamanukan, Ciasem, and Legonkulon.
According to the latest data from the Subang Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), while 1,030 people remain in official shelters, the total number of individuals impacted by the week-long flood is estimated at 31,656. Anang explained that the prevalence of these illnesses is largely due to prolonged exposure to contaminated water.
"To maintain their health, evacuees need to implement a proper diet and strictly maintain environmental hygiene around the evacuation sites," he urged.
The scale of the disaster was significant, with floodwaters reaching 54 villages across nine districts at its peak. Udin Jazudin, Chief Executive of BPBD Subang, detailed the widespread damage, noting that Pamanukan, Legonkulon, and Blanakan were among the hardest-hit areas.
"Up to 7,110 houses across these villages and subdistricts were submerged. Additionally, the floods inundated 2,130 hectares of rice fields, 334 hectares of fish ponds, 27 places of worship, and 18 schools," explained Udin Jazudin. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
