RRI.CO.ID, Aimas - The Southwest Papua Provincial Administration distributed 17,750 liters of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) to farmer groups in Sorong Regency to foster eco-friendly agriculture and bolster food security across the regency.
As reported by Antara, the initiative aims to cut production costs while boosting crop yields and long-term economic growth for local communities. Southwest Papua Governor, Elisa Kambu, speaking in Sorong on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, said the aid would ease farmers' cultivation burdens and drive higher harvests with ripple effects on regional prosperity.
“This assistance is aimed at reducing farmers' production costs while encouraging increased agricultural productivity,” said Governor Elisa.
The 2025 fiscal year POC aid targets active farmer groups in Sorong Regency, including both Indigenous Papuans (OAP) and non-OAP farmers. Each group received six cartons, equivalent to 72 liters, contributing to the total allocation of 17,750 liters.
Beyond immediate relief, Elisa stressed a holistic strategy, urging farmers to adopt integrated cropping patterns from planting to harvesting. He envisions processing and marketing agricultural products to add value and enhance family welfare.
The Governor explained that government support extends past production focusing on building farmers' independent and sustainable skills in processing and marketing. The POC distribution specifically promotes environmentally friendly, efficient, and sustainable organic farming practices to strengthen regional food resilience.
“Besides Sorong Regency, we are also distributing fertilizer aid to farmers in five other regencies and cities across Southwest Papua,” he added. ***
