RRI.CO.ID, Pekanbaru - Eight Indonesian migrant workers facing legal and procedural issues were deported from Malaysia and received by the Riau Provincial Office of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP3MI).
The group was repatriated through the Immigration Detention Depot (DTI) in Kemayan, Pahang, before arriving at Dumai Port on Sunday, January 25, aboard the Indomal Dinasty vessel.
Upon arrival, the workers underwent document checks by Dumai Immigration officers and initial health screenings conducted by the Port Health Quarantine Office.
BP3MI Riau Head Fanny Wahyu Kurniawan reported that one of the returnees, Sanusi, a male worker from West Nusa Tenggara, was found to suffer from heart disease and shortness of breath.
“He was declared stable and cleared to return to his hometown,” Fanny said in Pekanbaru on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
The group consisted of four men and four women, originating from several provinces: four from North Sumatra, two from West Nusa Tenggara, one from East Java, and one from Central Java.
Following the initial checks, BP3MI Riau, in collaboration with the Dumai Migrant Worker Service Center (P4MI), provided assistance, protection, and information to the deported workers.
“We brought them to the Migrant Worker Shelter at P4MI Dumai for further data collection, services, and facilitation while awaiting their return to their respective regions,” Fanny explained.
She added that P4MI Dumai also offered educational sessions to the workers, emphasizing the risks of seeking employment abroad through non-procedural channels. ***
