RRI.CO.ID, Palu – The Class III Women’s Correctional Institution in Palu, Central Sulawesi, continues to strengthen its Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSME)-based independence programs for inmates.
Through the "Chocolate Kitchen" activity held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the facility introduced a new product innovation, named "Better Chocolate" featuring modern variants topped with cheese and chocolate chips.
This activity involved five inmates who participated directly in every production stage, from raw material processing and mixing to molding and final packaging. This innovation is expected to enrich the product variety and increase the market competitiveness of inmate-made goods.
Jessy Emilia, a staff member of the Development Subsection who supervised the activity, explained that the Chocolate Kitchen serves as a learning platform. She noted that the program provides a creative space for inmates to develop their skills sustainably.
Effendy, the Head of the Development Subsection at Palu Women’s Prison, conveyed that the chocolate-making training is an integral part of continuous rehabilitation. The program is designed to equip inmates with practical skills that will be beneficial once they reintegrate into society.
“We train the inmates to independently produce various chocolate variants. We hope these skills can serve as a foundation for starting a business after their release, while simultaneously enriching the list of flagship products from the Palu Women’s Prison,” he explained.
