KBRN, Jakarta: The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has distributed 6.9 tons of logistical aid to disaster-affected regions in North Sumatra, using both air and land routes.
Abdul Muhari, head of BNPB’s Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center, announced on Friday, December 12, 2025, in Jakarta that the distribution was part of BNPB’s rapid response to meet the basic needs of communities displaced by floods and landslides.
Muhari explained that air routes were used to reach isolated areas that were inaccessible by vehicle. A total of 1,278 kilograms of aid was flown to Hajoran Parmonangan, Batang Toru, and Labu Tua village in South Tapanuli.
The airborne supplies included essential food items such as rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, and milk to support the nutritional needs of affected residents.
Meanwhile, land distribution accounted for the largest volume of aid, totaling 5,710 kilograms, destined for Humbang Hasundutan and Pinangsuri. This shipment, transported by logistics fleets, consisted of rice, instant noodles, and biscuits.
In addition to food, the land shipment included medical and hygiene supplies, including medicines, vitamins, masks, baby diapers, and clothing, to support evacuees' health and sanitation.
Abdul affirmed that BNPB will continue to expand logistics operations to ensure that all affected areas receive timely and equitable assistance.
BNPB also sent technical support, including power generators and fuel drums, to the Bukit Barisan I Military Regional Command to strengthen field operations.
North Sumatra is among the provinces most severely impacted by floods and landslides that have struck several regions across Sumatra over the past two weeks. As of Thursday, December 11, 2025, BNPB recorded 343 fatalities, 98 people still missing, and 53,523 residents displaced in the province. (Annaila Azzahra/Lasti Martina)
