KBRN, Bandung: Flash floods and landslides struck several areas of West Bandung Regency, West Java, on Thursday, December 4, 2025. The flash flood occurred along the Cibitung River in Mukapayung Village, Cililin Subdistrict.

The disaster affected tourist sites, farmland, and road access. Muddy water overflowed into the Lembah Curugan Gunung Putri tourist site, located directly on the riverbank.

“There was an overflow of water into the Lembah Curugan tourist site, which is situated right on the riverbank,” said Asep Sehabudin, head of the West Bandung Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), on Thursday.

“The high rainfall intensity caused the water to flood and submerge the tourist area quickly,” he added. In addition to the tourist site, about five hectares of rice fields along the river were inundated by the strong current.

The fields are officially owned by Indonesia Power (IP), but are still cultivated by residents. “As for the rice fields, the land has been released and is an asset of Indonesia Power, but residents are still farming it. We are currently assessing the total affected area,” Asep explained.

BPBD confirmed that the overflow from the Cibitung River did not threaten residential areas, as they are located a considerable distance from the riverbank. Nevertheless, the public has been urged to remain vigilant throughout the rainy season.

In addition to the flash flood, landslides occurred in two subdistricts: Cililin and Sindangkerta. In Nanggerang Village, Cililin Subdistrict, landslide debris blocked the road, preventing four-wheeled vehicles from passing. Motorcycles were still able to navigate the route by using the road shoulder.

Another landslide struck Cigagak Hamlet in Buninagara Village, Sindangkerta Subdistrict, completely blocking the road.

As of now, BPBD and related agencies continue to collect data and carry out emergency response efforts in the affected areas. The community has been advised to stay alert to the possibility of further disasters. (Annaila Azzahra/Lasti Martina)
