KBRN, Jakarta: The Gunung Padang Megalithic Site, located in Karyamukti Village, Campaka Subdistrict, Cianjur Regency, West Java, was confirmed to be built around 6,000 Before Christ (BC) by the site's Research and Restoration Team.

Team Head Ali Akbar announced the crucial dating result on Sunday, November 30, 2025, explaining that it was based on the detailed analysis of multiple samples collected during excavations over the past few months.

“The samples studied and tested included carbon content taken from the fifth terrace, specifically at a depth of four meters below the site's surface, which allowed us to determine the age of the outermost visible structure,” he explained, as quoted by Antara.

The research team also discovered a foundation structure made of round-shaped stones at a four-meter depth, noting that the rocks were not elongated but pentagonal and round.

Consequently, the researchers concluded that the neatly arranged layer of stones constitutes a foundation structure. This foundation discovery reveals that the Gunung Padang Site was built gradually across multiple periods.

Based on laboratory test results, it was revealed that the Gunung Padang Megalithic Site was constructed starting from 6,000 BC, confirming that the site is older than the Giza pyramids in Egypt.

“The construction of this site was carried out in stages up until the final structure we can see today; after the foundation was formed, construction of the structure above it continued, and so on,” he said.

After confirming the site's age, he noted that the research would continue with an initial restoration process, including fixing several stones that have shifted from their original location due to natural factors. A large-scale restoration is planned for early 2026.

“This December, initial restoration will be carried out, including returning shifted or damaged stones to their original position, while a large-scale restoration will take place at the beginning of the year,” he concluded. ***
