KBRN, Surabaya: Literacy-strengthening activities were held with great enthusiasm at state-run early childhood education centers PAUD Bung Karno Surabaya, highlighted by a visit from the Mobile Learning Unit of the East Java Provincial PAUD Institute on Friday, November 21, 2025.
The program was part of the commemoration of World Children’s Day, designed to give children a fun yet meaningful learning experience.
Budi Purnomo, Coordinator of the Mobile Learning Unit, said the day’s activities were aimed at enhancing children’s interest in reading while also building their confidence through educational games.
“Today’s agenda included literacy activities inside the mobile learning unit, puppet play, and a mini outbound exercise called walking on fabric, which trains children’s courage and balance. The program concluded with a storytelling session to foster greater happiness among the children,” he explained.
The Mobile Learning Unit quickly became the center of attention, with children eagerly selecting their favorite books. This experience-based approach is expected to cultivate a love for reading from an early age in an engaging and enjoyable way.
Putri Ratna Juwita Lubis, Principal of PAUD Bung Karno Surabaya, expressed appreciation for the collaboration between Askrindo Peduli and the PAUD Institute in providing activities that have a tangible impact on student development.
“Today’s literacy activity was truly exciting and outstanding. We thank Askrindo Peduli and the PAUD Institute for their commitment to promoting early literacy. The children’s response was joyful, and the mobile learning unit allowed them to choose the books they liked,” she said.
In addition to reading, the children joined a simple outbound activity involving walking on fabric. The exercise was designed to boost courage, train balance, and gradually support the development of gross motor skills. Despite its simplicity, the activity helped stimulate children’s self-confidence.
The atmosphere grew livelier when the storytelling session began. Storytelling served as a delightful medium for learning, stimulating imagination while conveying moral messages without making the children feel lectured.
Elfi Budiyanti, a storyteller and motivator who contributed to the program, emphasized the importance of storytelling in literacy. “We were invited today to engage with the wonderful children at PAUD State Bung Karno Surabaya,” she said.
“In this literacy session, I used storytelling to show that literacy is broad, and storytelling is one way to narrate and convey moral messages to children without being preachy,” she added.
With the combination of literacy activities, outbound games, and storytelling, the World Children’s Day celebration at PAUD State Bung Karno Surabaya was festive and spirited. Organizers hope the collaboration will continue so that more children can experience the joy of literacy from an early age. (Annaila Azzahra/Lasti Martina)
