KBRN, Lampung Barat: A critically endangered Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) that had been roaming an area where it recently attacked a local farmer has been successfully captured. The animal was safely secured in a trap cage set by a joint task force in the Kali Pasir forest area of Sukabumi Village, Batu Brak Subdistrict, West Lampung Regency, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

The capture marks a significant relief for the local community, who had been on edge following reports of the tiger presence.

"That’s correct, a Sumatran tiger has been caught in the trap set by the joint officers," confirmed Sukabumi Village Secretary John Erland, on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

As reported by antaranews.com, John explained that the wild animal entered the cage today, Tuesday, October 28, 2025. This area is the same vicinity where a tiger was recently seen and had attacked a farmer.

Following the capture, a combined team, including medical personnel from the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), immediately moved to the location to assess the protected animal's condition before beginning the evacuation process.

"The officers are currently still at the location awaiting the tranquilization and evacuation process," he said.

According to Erland, this success is the result of effective collaboration between the joint task force and local residents who had been monitoring the area for several days. He emphasized that the tiger is alive and urged residents to keep their distance for safety reasons.

"The tiger is still alive. We urge residents not to approach because the animal still has the potential to be dangerous, and the officers are currently waiting for other personnel to carry out the evacuation," he said.

The successful capture has reportedly brought a sense of relief to the local population. However, the Secretary maintained a cautious tone, appealing to residents to remain vigilant for other potential wild animals still circulating in the forest area.

“Right now, residents can be slightly calmer because the tiger has been successfully captured. However, we are still waiting for the evacuation process to be completed so the situation is truly safe,” he concluded. ***
