KBRN, Bekasi: The Bekasi City Administration, West Java, through the City's Environmental Agency (DLH), has commenced efforts to address the recent landslide at the Sumurbatu Final Disposal Site (TPA). Initial measures include using heavy equipment for the arrangement and tidying of the affected area.

Kiswatiningsih, Acting Head of the Bekasi City Environmental Agency, conveyed that this action was taken to ensure the TPA remains safe and that its operational activities can continue normally.

"As a follow-up, we will increase the number of heavy equipment units at the landslide site to accelerate the tidying and arrangement of the waste pile. This is also to strengthen the structure of the refuse mound, so it is more stable and secure," explained Kiswatiningsihin in a statement on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The Bekasi City Administration is also expediting the completion of a Sanitary Landfill facility to enhance the TPA's operational efficiency and transition to a more environmentally friendly waste management system.

"The Bekasi City Administration is committed to improving a sustainable, safe, and environmentally friendly waste management system. This is aimed at maintaining the cleanliness, health, and comfort of the Bekasi City community," she added.

Meanwhile, Evi Mafriningsianti, Secretary of Commission II of the Bekasi City Regional Representatives Council (DPRD), asserted that the landslide incident signals that the Sumurbatu TPA is overburdened. She, therefore, recommends that the City Administration start focusing on waste processing from the upstream level, specifically households.

Evi explained that by managing waste at its source, the total volume of refuse entering the site will decrease. She expressed belief taht this approach is capable of significantly reducing the load on the Sumurbatu TPA.

"We urge that the upstream waste processing program be accelerated, certainly with the support of the Bekasi City Administration. This will help reduce waste significantly and thus help ease the burden on the Sumurbatu TPA," she remarked.

It is known that the Sumurbatu TPA suffered a landslide on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The collapse occurred because the facility had exceeded its storage capacity. (Annaila Azzahra/Bambang MBKA)
