KBRN, Jakarta: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali is operating normally following severe flooding that temporarily closed several roads in Denpasar. The water has now fully receded, and airport services have resumed without disruption.

Gede Eka Sandi Asmad, Head of the Airport’s Communications and Legal Division, confirmed the situation in a statement on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

“All flight services are running smoothly despite the heavy rainfall that recently hit Bali,” Asmad said, as reported by rri.co.id. “Although no flights were canceled, some passengers arrived late due to flooded access roads. We are assisting with rescheduling in coordination with the airlines.”

The flooding, which began on Tuesday, September 9, was triggered by more than 24 hours of torrential rain across Bali, particularly in Denpasar and surrounding subdistricts.

The deluge overwhelmed drainage systems and caused rivers to overflow, submerging key roads and residential areas.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported over 120 flood points and 18 landslide locations across the island, with Denpasar, Jembrana, Gianyar, Klungkung, Badung, and Tabanan among the hardest hit.

Despite the declaration of a force majeure situation by airport authorities, flight operations remained unaffected. However, access to the airport was severely disrupted, with several main routes submerged and only large vehicles able to pass through.

To mitigate the impact, airport management deployed additional terminal staff, expanded seating areas, and coordinated closely with airlines and ground transport providers. “We continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure operations and passenger services run smoothly,” Asmad added.

He emphasized that other airport services, including catering and intermodal transportation, remain operational. Coordination with ground transportation companies is ongoing to ensure vehicle availability for both arriving and departing passengers.

Asmad urged travelers to arrive early and stay informed. “Please reconfirm your flight schedule to prevent rushing and maintain safety,” he said.

Passengers are also encouraged to engage with airport management via official social media channels and Contact Center 172 to ensure a smooth travel experience, even under extreme weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Denpasar City Administration has declared an emergency status to accelerate disaster response efforts.

Emergency posts have been set up across the city, supported by health workers, social services, and regional disaster agencies.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has instructed BNPB to expedite search and rescue operations and assist displaced residents. ***
