1,000 Trees Planting to Celebrate Indonesia's Independence Day

KBRN, Jakarta: The 80th anniversary of Indonesia's independence can be celebrated in various ways or activities. One is planting 1,000 trees in the Setu (Lake) Cipayung area, Cipayung District, East Jakarta, on Monday, August 18, 2025.

The Jakarta 4th State High School (SMAN 4 Jakarta) Alumni Association (Himals4) organizes the event. The initiative aims to preserve the environment, particularly in the Jakarta-Bogor-Tangerang-Bekasi (Jabotabek) region, while commemorating Indonesia's Independence Day.

Arya Sandiyudha, the General Chairperson of Himals4 and also the Deputy Chairperson of the Central Information Commission (KIP), said that this initiative is a manifestation of awareness toward a healthier future generation.

According to him, the 1,000 tree planting initiative was participated in by alumni of SMAN 4 Jakarta from the 1980 to 2005 batches. The planting locations will be spread across various areas in Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bekasi.

In addition to the daily consumption plants, some of the trees planted are rare species. “This is a sign for us to carry out our duties with care for the environment and humanity,” he said.

Village Head of Setu Cipayung, Dwi Widiastuti, revealed that tree planting in her area is frequently conducted, especially in the Setu Cipayung area. “Both private and government entities often carry out tree planting here,” she said.

For that reason, Dwi commended the initiative in her area, as the trees planted are productive species. “The fruits from these productive trees can be utilized by the local community, especially when they produce fruit,” she explained. ***
