KBRN, Bogor: The Indonesian Air Force has launched an official investigation into the crash of a training aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Aerosport Federation (FASI), which claimed the life of former Air Force spokesperson Air Commodore (Marsma) Fajar Adrianto. The incident occurred on Sunday morning, August 3, 2025, in Ciampea, Bogor, West Java, near the Astana Public Cemetery.

Air Force spokesperson Air Commodore I Nyoman Suadnyana confirmed the fatality and stated that the aircraft had passed pre-flight checks and was deemed airworthy. “We are still investigating the cause. The aircraft was in good condition before takeoff, so we cannot yet determine what went wrong,” Nyoman told reporters on Sunday, August 3, 2025, as quoted by rri.co.id.

The aircraft, piloted by the late Marsma Fajar, departed from Atang Sendjaja Air Base in Bogor at 09:08 a.m. local time as part of a proficiency training mission in aerospace sports aviation. The flight was part of ongoing efforts to maintain and develop pilot capabilities.

In addition to the fatality, one other individual was seriously injured, identified as Roni, the co-pilot. He is currently receiving intensive medical care and is reported to be in recovery. “He is being treated for serious injuries and is under close medical supervision,” Nyoman added.

The crash shocked residents of Ciampea, who quickly circulated news of the incident via local WhatsApp groups. “A plane has crashed in Benteng, right above the Astana Cemetery,” said local resident Sinwan in a widely shared message.

Emergency responders and joint security forces swiftly arrived at the scene, evacuating both victims and securing the area. The deceased and injured were transported to Atang Sanjaya Semplak Hospital and Hasan Toto Hospital in Bogor.

Initial reports indicated that the aircraft had taken off from Pondok Cabe Air Base in South Jakarta, though conflicting details remain under review. As of Sunday afternoon, authorities had not released an official statement regarding the cause of the crash. ***
