KBRN, Baubau: The Kasambu Sambu cultural festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm by the community of Kolese Village, Lealea District, Baubau City, Southeast Sulawesi on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
This annual event is routinely organized by the Kolese community, both those living in their hometown and those residing elsewhere. This moment serves as an opportunity to strengthen social bonds after the celebration of Eid.
“This year is particularly special; even those from Kolese living away participated through their families here. They called their families to prepare a talang for me. We truly appreciate this; even while away, love for the hometown remains,” said the event committee chair, La Ode Aswad, as quoted by rri.co.id.
La Ode Aswad who is also the Baubau City Secretary Assistant 1, detailed that this year approximately 80 food talangs (traditional serving tray or container used to present various types of food) were prepared by the Kolese community. Each talang can be enjoyed by 10 to 15 people, showcasing the spirit of mutual cooperation that is still strong within the community.
“I hope that the Kolese generation, both in the village and abroad, will work together to build Kolese and preserve this Kasambu Sambu tradition so that it remains sustainable forever. If not preserved, this tradition will become extinct,” he added.
La Ode Aswad expressed that this cultural festival aligns with the vision and mission of the Baubau City Government for the 2025-2030 period, which emphasizes working together. The Kasambu Sambu tradition is not just about celebration but also reflects a commitment to preserving cultural heritage that forms a shared identity.
“Preserving customs is part of the local government’s responsibility. This event is tangible evidence of collaboration between the community and the government,” he explained.
La Ode Aswad also mentioned that this year’s Kasambu Sambu tradition served as a unifying force. Previously divided during election moments due to various interests, this event brings everyone back together.
“In line with what the Baubau Mayor said, now that the elections are over, we work together to build Baubau City, so that it can stand equal with other cities,” he concluded. ***
