KBRN, Mojokerto: To address landslides in the Cangar area, Mojokerto, the East Java Provincial Government plans to construct embankments and gabions to reinforce land contours. Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa has directed the Bina Marga Public Work Agency to build terraced cliff-side gabions.
"The Bina Marga Public Work Agency will install a terraced gabion, approximately 70 meters high, on the right side to reinforce the land contour," Khofifah said during her visit to the landslide site on Sunday, April 6, 2025, as reported by rri.co.id.
The landslide-affected cliff currently has three trees obstructing the road. These will be cut down and cleared before the installation of wire gabions.
Khofifah explained the plan to organize terracing effectively. She pointed to the side of the ravine, highlighting the mechanism for reinforcing the existing texture of the land. The texture refers to the embankment designed to strengthen the road affected by landslide debris.
Meanwhile, Edy Tambeng Widjaja, Head of the PU Bina Marga Service, added further details. The terraced gabion construction is expected to create a stronger foundation. "We hope to establish a foundation capable of holding back the landslide above it," he stated.
The gabion will be 10 meters high, with a length of 70 meters from the road to the cliff side and 40 meters along the roadside.
"We have yet to determine the budget. The construction of the terracing and soil retaining wall is estimated to take one month," he added. ***
