KBRN, Singaraja: The Buleleng Regency Communication, Informatics, Cryptography and Statistics Agency in Bali Province is conducting digital literacy training for website operators of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), MSME actors, and members of the Public Information Community (KIM) in Buleleng to address online gambling activities.

"The issue of online gambling is a real threat to society. Numerous individuals are tempted by instant profits, yet ultimately face huge losses," said Head of Buleleng Communication and Information Agency, Ketut Suwarmawan on Thursday, April 3, 2025, as quoted by rri.co.id.

He added that online gambling also poses risks of personal data security due to many unauthorized sites operating illegally.

Suwarmawan noted that there are numerous instances where online gambling participants incur significant monetary losses due to a non-transparent and manipulative gaming system. Beyond mere financial damage, addiction to online gambling can also lead to psychological issues like stress, depression, and heightened anxiety.

"To tackle this issue, the Buleleng Regency Communication, Informatics, Cryptography and Statistics Agency continues to educate the public to avoid online gambling practices and illegal online lending," he said.

Regarding regulations, gambling is banned in Indonesia under Article 27 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 45 Paragraph 2 of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). Individuals who deliberately disseminate or facilitate access to online gambling face a maximum prison sentence of 6 years and/or a maximum penalty of IDR 1 billion.

In addition to the ITE Law, Article 303 of the Criminal Code also applies, which stipulates a maximum imprisonment of four years and/or a maximum criminal fine of IDR 10 million for gamblers.

Online gambling and illegal online lending frequently target youth with the promise of quick profits. In reality, however, more individuals end up incurring losses than gaining profits. ***
