Endemic Rafflesia Kemumu Blooms Again in North Bengkulu

KBRN, Bengkulu: The rafflesia Kemumu flower bloomed again in the Kemumu tourist area, North Bengkulu Regency, Bengkulu, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The flower will remain visible for the next three days.
Member of the North Bengkulu Rare Flower Care Community (KPPL) Jagek said that the KPPL is ready to guide people who want to come and see it directly. Not only that, KPPL also provides education about the rafflesia flower to visitors, as quoted by rri.co.id.
The Rafflesia Kemumu flower is a genus of Rafflesia that only exists in Kemumu. It was identified in 2017.
The flower was discovered by a botanist from the University of Bengkulu, Prof. Agus Susatya, during a joint research project with a Malaysian researcher.
Initially, the flower was classified as part of the Rafflesia genus, but further investigation revealed it to be a distinct genus.
Rafflesia Kemumu is endemic to this region and has been found elsewhere. North Bengkulu is currently the sole known habitat for Rafflesia Kemumu. ***
